What should I do about my husband? Best advice 10 points?
I’ve been married almost 3 years and overall my husband is a great guy. However, if someone is disrespectful by being belligerent to me or him, I stand my ground and won’t tolerate being spoken to with disrespect towards me or him. However, my husband always sides with the other person and will yell at me for having yelled at them for being disrespectful. Some examples are, I Pet Sit for the Holiday’s and a couple paid for 10 days and stayed gone two extra days. So when my husband told the wife over the phone that they’ll owe more money, she became infuriated and cussed and screamed at my husband. I took the phone and said, when you can learn respect and get your temper in check, I’ll talk to you.
Then her husband called back and I answered and immediately he screamed, not letting me get a word in edge wise. So he insisted coming by 1:30 am. I said, my son is asleep and you’re welcome to come by in the morning,but if you show up in the middle of the night, disturbing my family, I’ll call the law for trespassing. My husband called him back and said, my wife is wrong for yelling, but please do come and get your dog.
I told my husband, no because it would wake my son, but he didn’t listen or respect my wishes at all. Another time, I went to a hair salon to get my hair colored brown with blonde high lights and a trim. My hair turned out, gray and white, 2 inches was cut off shorter on the one side, and when I refused to pay for it. 3 women got in my face screaming. My husband took my debit card and paid for it against my wishes. They allowed a customer to get in my face to scream at me and when I cussed her out, my husband dragged me out humiliating me.

Also my husbands family let my sister in law borrow our car that we had there and were out of town. His parents are literally millionaires and they said his sister totaled our car and that we’d have to replace it. Yet we can’t afford to. So we’ve been invited to his sister’s wedding and his dad asked, if we got another car and we said, no we can’t. They sent us no Christmas gifts and yet we sent them some. I could care a less if they sent me anything,but they should’ve at least sent their son something.
When I was hurt they sent him nothing for his birthday,not even a card, my husband ended up taking it out on me by giving me nothing for my birthday. Claiming he didn’t have money,but I told him he knew when my b-day is and should’ve saved money for at least a card. Now he wants me to go to this wedding with him. They’re paying for his sisters wedding and never attended our wedding, nor even gave us a gift. I’ve asked him why he never stands up for me and takes everyone else’s side at the expense of humiliating me and he says, because he is getting what he wants out of it, ie, the Pet Sitting money, deescalating a situation, but what makes it okay for others to cuss me and if I treat them how they treat me, then he tells me off in front of them. Please give me good advice and if you recommend boundaries, then what kind do I set and how should I enforce them? Thank you a lot.

It sounds to me like you & your husband handle conflict in very different ways. You confront & respond in kind while he runs away & makes peace at all costs. Regarding the dog sitting, if it’s your business, you should be able to decide how you run it & he should mind his own freaking business. Furthermore, I don’t blame you for refusing to pay a hair cutter who botched your hair. He’s wrong to butt into your affairs but you’ve gotta be the one to put him in check on that. In terms of the family flapdoodle, well that’s his family and it’s his area to say how things should be handled. However, if his sister totaled your car, is he not in conversation with her about making restitution for the damage she’s done? If not, since it’s okay for him to take matters into his own hands when he disagrees with how you handle things, maybe it’s okay for you to do the same and ask your sister to fork up some money? Well don’t do that but maybe ask your husband how he’d like it if you did? And finally in terms of the b-day gift, if money is tight & you can’t afford a car, well let it go. You gotta pick your battles wisely.

Bottom line, you 2 need to talk out these differences and find a way to work together, not apart. I hope you can resolve these differences. Couples counseling I think would be very helpful in talking these problems out & finding better ways to resolve issues. Good luck!

Sounds as though your husband needs a head adjustment ! Maybe in the next 3 years, you can knock some sense into him !
Think the two of you need to put your heads and hearts together for a happier relationship. If not ? There may be too many problems down the road to keep the marriage together. Husbands are supposed to be supportive of their wives, And visa/versa .

Your husband is a pushover and you should have known of this before you married him. My mouth dropped open literally when I read that he did not get you anything for your birthday.. the whole thing is a mess but when you love someone you deal with whatever flaws they come with. This unfortunetely is a personality flaw and I can’t give any advice on how to change it, just to say I’ve heard others I know complain about almost this exact situation. In her case, it was because he didn’t really want to get in the middle of things, and he wanted to keep both of them in his life. His wife and his best friend.. who he allows to talk shit about his wife sometimes agreeing. Its a hard situation because Yes you should be able to say anything to your best friend AND your wife, but if thats not really the way he’s feeling then he should be able to stand his own ground for himself and for her… It sounds like this is what you got yourself into so I say deal with it because you love him. It’s a hard job to change people! Some say it can’t be done. If you’ve talked with him and he doesn’t get it now, he probably never will. Continue to stand your own ground, but maybe more of a middle ground rather then getting easily worked up into aggression. Also you may stop defending him and see if he cares to defend himself which he probably won’t, so let him get attacked and see how much he likes it. About the family… some families are redeculous but your stuck with them, also something you should have known however long ago.
